 Squadron 315
Squadron 315 was formed officially at Acklington on 21 January 1941 (as the 10th Polish squadron in Britain), when the first group of Polish officers under command of S/Ldr Stanislaw Pietraszkiewicz arrived. Within the next few days additional flying and technical personnel arrived from the Polish Air Force Depot at Blackpool. On 25 January S/Ldr Humphrey Desmond Cooke took command of this unit. The first aircraft, Hawker Hurricane I, arrived at Acklington on 3 February 1941. Five days later Squadron 315 received four more machines. After all the pilots had received their initial conversion to the Supermarine fighters, between 14 and 16 July 1941, 315 Sqn moved to Northolt to replace Squadron 303. After the war ended, Squadron 315 remained as part of the RAF's Fighter Command until disbanded on 14 January 1947.
